The Greene County board of supervisors at its regular meeting Jan. 2 organized for 2014 with very few changes from the old year.
John Muir was reappointed at board chair and Guy Richardson was reappointed as vice-chair. Regular meetings will continue to be held Mondays at 8:30 am (Tuesdays after a designated Monday holiday), and Thursdays at 8:30 am during the budget process (typically late December through March). Regular courthouse hours will remain as 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
The county will observe 10 holidays: Jan. 1; Feb. 17 as Presidents Day; May 26 as Memorial Day; July 4; Sept. 1 as Labor Day; Nov. 11 as Veterans Day; Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 as Thanksgiving; and Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 as Christmas.
Committee assignments were unchanged for supervisors Mick Burkett, Muir and Richardson. Supervisor Dawn Rudolph added Partnerships 4 Families but was not named to the Greene County Recycling Agency nor the M&M Divide RC&D board. Supervisor Tom Contner was appointed to the Greene County Recycling Agency and was changed from a full member to an alternate to the Airport Commission. The Airport Commission was added to Richardson’s committee assignments.
Most other board appointments – including the Civil Service Commission, the county Board of Health, Region XII committees, the Compensation Commission (for matters of condemnation proceedings), the county Pioneer Cemetery Commission, the Zoning Commission, the Board of Adjustment, the Veterans Affairs Commission and the Magistrate Appointing Commission – will remain the same. Laurie Connolly MD was not reappointed as deputy medical examiner. Diane Wise will serve as chair of the Conservation Board. Former chair Larry Burkett was reappointed to the board but will not be chair.
The board also approved a resolution to use the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s master matrix for evaluating applications for construction of confinement feeding operations.
